Lengua Drop Ring in Sterling Silver & Citrine

The Lengua Drop Ring is a sculptural .925 sterling silver ring set with a faceted natural citrine, made by hand in our workshop in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico.

It belongs to our Lengua Collection, inspired by the universal language of communication. The form reinterprets the tongue — a symbol we found throughout pre-Hispanic codices, where it stands for speech, knowledge and human connection — and curves it around the finger.

The stone is a pear-cut citrine, and it's the only faceted stone we use. Everything else in our catalog is a cabochon, polished smooth to show the material. Here we wanted the opposite: facets that throw light, warm gold against cool silver.

The silver body is built using cartoneado, a technique Taxco has practiced for generations: sterling sheet is die-stamped, then soldered by hand into a hollow form. It's what lets a ring this sculptural stay comfortable across the knuckle.

Care

Silver is a living material and will develop a patina over time. Polish it with a silver cloth to bring back the shine, or leave it darker — we like it both ways. Keep the citrine away from perfume and household cleaners, and take the ring off before swimming.

Questions

What is citrine? A natural variety of quartz, in tones that run from pale champagne to deep amber. It's a hard stone, which is what makes it right for a ring — it takes daily wear better than the softer materials we use elsewhere.

Why is this stone faceted when the others aren't? Because citrine earns it. Most of our stones — jade, malachite, lapis, obsidian — are cut as cabochons, polished smooth so you read the material itself. Citrine is transparent, so facets give it something to do with light.

Is every stone the same color? No. Citrine is natural, so tone varies from one ring to the next. Yours will be its own.
